Frequently Asked Questions
What do United Methodists believe?
As a part of the worldwide United Methodist Church family, we follow a set of Bible-based, God inspired beliefs set forth by our denomination. To learn more about our beliefs, CLICK HERE.
Where should I park? Is there handicapped parking available?
Parking is available next to the church and on the street around the church. You may also use the parking lot at Lott Insurance on Sundays (across Saline Street from the church).
What should I expect?
Our worship is mostly traditional with hymns, prayers, an uplifting or thoughtful message (sermon) from our Pastor. However, we occasionally add in different styles of service from time to time.
Do you serve Communion?
Communion is served on the first Sunday of the month and at special occasions such as holidays, baptisms, and when a new member joins the congregation. Our communion table is open to all and you do not have to be a member of our church, or a United Methodist, to participate.
What should I wear?
Our regular worship service is casual. You’ll find people in jeans and a few who dress up a little more. You’ll be welcome regardless!
Is there Sunday School?
We currently do not have a Sunday School. However, children of all ages are welcome during our service. We have activity bags for the pre-school and younger school age children if requested.
Is there Children's Church or a Nursery?
Not at this time.
Is the church available for events (i.e., weddings, funerals, etc.)?
Yes, please see the Pastor after service for details or call and leave a message at (734) 279-1118 and we’ll get back in contact with you for details.
How do I join the church?
There is a membership class that you will need to attend. Please contact Pastor Brad Luck (blucky33@icloud.com) for information.
Who We Are
Meet Our Pastor
Rev. David LaLone
Pastor
I became the pastor at Petersburg UMC in July 2025. I was born and raised in Lansing, MI. My wife and I met in a youth group as high schoolers. We have two daughters together and a dog. Born in 1986, I am a Millennial. I graduated from Great Lakes Christian College with a degree in Youth Ministry and Theology. As I pursued God’s call on me into ministry, I thought I would just focus on youth but as faith journeys often go I have gone down paths that I never expected I would go down. God eventually called me to be a United Methodist pastor.
In ministry I bring gifts and graces. I have creative gifts as a poet and singer-songwriter. I have intellectual gifts of biblical interpretation and the grace of being an overthinker.
Hobbies are healthy for everyone to have. I enjoy many things such as reading, writing, and music. I also love nature and love every opportunity I have to go kayaking. You may see me along the River Raisin. I consider myself a retro gamer (80’s and 90’s arcade classics) and I also enjoy tabletop games.
My wife is a teacher to infants and toddlers. She has been a great partner in ministry as she employs her gifts with children and her gifts with people. She is gifted as a giver, encourager, and protector. My wife’s faith continues to amaze me as I approach too often with my head she leads with her heart. My wife is a prayer warrior. No matter how small or big she will lift you in prayer.
I have a huge love for the church. The church is far from perfect but it has been ordained by God to be a people who embody the fruits of the spirit. The church is called to be a people that share the kingdom of God with everyone. I’m continually amazed at how God uses broken and imperfect people, of which I am broken and imperfect, to do amazing things. I look forward to seeing how God uses me and Petersburg UMC.
Peace
Rev. David LaLone
